Meet The Executives

Tashima M. Flowers, a free-spirited individual that believes if you put positive energy into the universe the results are endless and rewarding. Tashima’s parents instilled many values in her; two of the most profound are: be respectful toward others and always do what makes you happy. These are the values that shape Tashima’s character and help to make her the extraordinary woman she is today.

A native of the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York. Tashima’s dream was to work in the social work field. She felt it was her duty to help young girls overcome obstacles that they were bound to face. She knew what it felt like to live in a disadvantage community, she knew what it felt like to carry generational baggage and she knew what it felt like to become pregnant as a teenager.

Fast-forward into her late 30’s Tashima holds a M.S. in Nonprofit Management & Leadership from Walden University. Tashima’s life experiences and formal educational training have provided her with the necessary tools to relate to and empathize with her clients at MSK on a personal and professional level. The opportunity to help someone turn a not so good situation into something better is meaningful to her and why she had a strong eagerness to start her own mentoring program.

My Sisters’ Keeper (MSK) , launched in 2007, the initial focus was one on one mentoring for first time pregnant or parenting teen mothers between the ages of 13-19, residing in Central Brooklyn     (East New York, Brownsville, Bedford Stuyvesant and Bushwick). The mission was to help teen mothers prevent subsequent births within their teen years through one on one mentoring, monthly support groups, sex education and leadership development. These platforms created a pathway towards success for teen mothers as they gain academic, financial, and social competence. The program lasted for nine years with multiple success stories.

After revamping the direction of MSK, Tashima and Sheena decided to implement a program that would cater to middle school aged girls. In 2016, Girls Imagining Future Transformation (GIFT) was born. Life experiences for Tashima brought everything full circle. Whether working with teen mothers or middle school age girls. The MSK platform will empower young girls for years to come.
Tashima would rather take on the challenge of making a long-term difference in the lives of young girls in her community. Their growth and smiles would compensate for all the money in the world!
